| Alison A. Denham |
Alison A. Denham, was born in Kansas City, Missouri and attended Boston University, Wellesley College (B.A., Wellesley Scholar) and University of Maine (J.D., 1981). She is admitted to the Maine, Massachusetts and Federal Bars and is a member of the Maine State Bar Association, Gignoux Inn of Court and Defense Research Institute.
Alison has successfully litigated civil cases in the Maine Superior Court and U.S. District Court, including auto and premises liability cases. Her appellate practice includes a number of significant decisions in workers’ compensation and civil cases. She specializes in products liability defense, concentrating on agricultural, vehicular and industrial machinery cases. In this part of her practice, Alison represents both manufacturers and dealers/retailers. Often, these cases involve multiple defendants and complex scenarios which arise in Maine’s workplaces, where manufacturing machinery has been acquired and modified over decades. The cases frequently present issues of indemnity between the dealer and manufacturer.
Alison also enjoys more unusual products liability cases, including “foreign object” claims. In March, 2010, she successfully defended a multi-national corporation and its franchisee in a case arising from a foreign object found in a beverage. A defense verdict was rendered following a full trial. Most recently, she has represented a major meat producer in litigation arising from an alleged multi-state outbreak of E.coli illness.
Alison heads the firm’s workers’ compensation department, and is a frequent speaker on workers’ compensation and related topics in seminars for members of the insurance and business community. She has extensive experience representing Maine private and municipal employers, both self-insured and under standard workers’ compensation coverage. She also represents employers in discrimination claims arising from work injuries and related scenarios.
