Martica S. Douglas
Martica S. Douglas

Martica S. Douglas began her practice as a trial attorney in 1977, when it was unusual to see women as trial counsel in Maine’s courtrooms. She has been trying cases before Maine juries ever since. She maintains a broad-based litigation practice that includes personal injury, toxic exposure, professional malpractice, and insurance coverage cases. She also offers her services as a mediator in divorce cases.

Ms. Douglas graduated with honors from Barnard College in New York City in 1973 and obtained her law degree from the University of Maine School of Law in 1977. She is on the Board of Governors of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association and the American and Maine Bar Associations. She has served on the Maine Courts' Advisory Committee on the Rules of Evidence and on the editorial board of the ABA’s Tort and Insurance Practice Section’s Law Journal. Her appellate practice has resulted in numerous decisions that are now an established part of Maine jurisprudence, particularly in the area of insurance coverage.
